I was fully prepared to build a static M4 until I came across Spyker Workshop’s RC mods. I ordered the suspension upgrade and received it in a timely manner. The kit is complete and very well engineered. I like it because it makes maximum use of stock parts and maintains scale look except for 4 screw heads.
The print lines on the parts will probably put-off the purists but a set of mini-scrapers made short work of knocking down the ridges.

Following the excellent video instructions (be sure to watch both as some improvements were made since the first video) the kit goes together with little effort.
The only gotcha’s that I encountered assembling the first bogie set was the following:

    1. I decided to fill the wells on the back of the bogie housing with resin (mainly for weight) but in doing so I had to trim the short edge of the base plate where the springs are seated because of the resin. Gluing in the base plate before pouring the resin solves that.

    2. Instead of resin filling the hollow wheels, I got a set of resin inserts from East Coast Armory. The inserts provide some crisp additional details. Unfortunately, the additional face detail makes it thicker/wider than the stock wheel. As a result, the swing arms pinch the wheel hub and they do not spin as freely as the stock wheel does. What I ended up doing was to sand a bit of the ECA hub down to be about even with the rim. I then took the stock hub and countersunk the center to receive the slightly raised portion on the rear swing arm. The ECA side will face out and the stock wheels face inboard. Once that was done, the wheel spins freely and there is no side-to-side play!

Not a gotcha but I did cut off one complete coil from the springs to soften them up. I plan on detailing the crap out of the tank with many aftermarket mods so it’s probably going to end up being a bit on the heavier side. If I see that the springs are still a bit hard, I figure it’s easier to add weight rather than having to lose weight because they are too soft. Time will tell.

Overall, I am excited by the mods coming out of Ryans’ workshop. IMO it’s a breath of fresh air in the hobby. Dragon should note this and perhaps will come out with additional kits knowing there is a healthy aftermarket for their products. Oh well just a thought.

Looking forward to completing the suspension and ordering other kits!

Excellent kit. Very well designed, worth the money. The 3D printed parts are super strong and look decent once painted. The bogey assemblies seem very heavy duty compared to original kit with these parts. One word of caution, avoid contact of 3D printed parts and Loctite – it will cause damage to the plastic (cracking, crumbling).

I bought the 1/6 Field of Amor Sherman and after months of frustration, expense, and lack of clear instructions and communication, I shelved the project. Then I happened across the Spyker Sherman, watched the videos, and I was hooked. The kits and Ryan’s customer service have far exceeded my expectations! Most important, his products put fun back into the hobby. Unlike the FOA “sort of scale” Sherman, you can go as crazy as you want with this system adding details and modifications. I hope that Ryan continues producing more products along this line. Highly recommended.

As a postscript to getting a hull completed and running, if you plan to use the ECA detailed inserts for the road wheels, I would highly recommend assembling the wheels first and then fit them into the axle arms. The tolerances between the wheels and arms are quite tight, and sanding down the insides of the arms will provide more clearance for the wheels to turn freely without binding or wearing paint off the rims. I am confident that the wheels will run in as I drive the tank, but the paint will need touching up as it wears off. I also highly recommend the Sabertooth 2X32 ESC as the steering is very precise and smooth.

I can’t find enough good things to say about this kit. Despite being in the middle of the quarantine my kits arrived very quickly with good communication throughout. The engineering and quality of the parts is top notch. I did cut about 1.5 coils off each spring, the suspension is still quite stiff but I think will be okay as weight gets added. I also replaced the 1/4-20 nylock nuts on the axle bolts with shallower all metal jam nuts because the nylocks where too deep to engage the nylon part enough to be sure they wouldn’t come loose. I highly recommend this kit too anyone considering it and a big thank you to Ryan for his quality work and excellent instructional videos.
